Information and Referral
SHOAL Centre Reception Desk volunteers handle queries from both walk-in traffic and phone calls. An abundance of written material is available at SHOAL Centre.
Senior Peer Counselors
We offer the services of a trained peer counselor, who will respect your need for privacy and for doing things your way. There is no fee for this service. A counselor can see you at your home or meet with you in an appropriate place. The Provincial body of Senior Peer Counselors of British Columbia trains all of these volunteers.
Medical Drives
Volunteers provide rides to medical appointments. At least three business days notice is required, but we will also attempt to find drivers for emergency cases.
Youth Employment Program
Youths aged 14 to 18 years who are attending School District No. 63 are eligible.

Assisting Clients with Children
Volunteers help support certain Beacon Child, Youth and Family Services and are occasionally asked to help an individual parent with their child or children on a short-term basis.
Friendly Visits
Volunteers are available for regular home visits to people who are primarily on their own and isolated and, on occasion, to drive that person for an outing.
Advocacy
Volunteers offer assistance when possible to help resolve difficult situations, assist with completing forms to access government services and may help with financial debt.
Reassurance Phone Calls
Volunteers check in with you by phone on a daily or weekly basis.
Special Projects and Events at SHOAL Centre
Volunteers are always needed to assist in areas such as the Tuck Shop, Assisted Living (working with the Activities Coordinator), the Annual SHOAL Centre Craft Fair and Bake Sale, or wherever a helping hand is needed.
Handy Person
This program provides handy people to complete small home repairs for those who cannot afford the services of a professional. Clients may need to provide for the cost of supplies.
