Assisted Living residential care is combined with a community-based activity centre for adults, and facility rentals are available to people looking for a special venue for their next gathering. Membership

For your membership fee, you will be entitled to:

Reduced rates on courses and drop-in programs including Bridge, Crafts, Woodcarving, Line Dancing, Billiards/Snooker, Table Tennis and more.
Celebrate your birthday with others born in the same month while enjoying free cake, tea or coffee.
Participate in special events, socialize with friends and meet new ones.
Become a Beacon Community Services voting Member.

Bursary Memberships

A limited number of bursaries have been made available by the Sidney-by-the-Sea Rotary Club to seniors who wish to purchase a SHOAL Centre Membership, but are unable to due to financial reasons. If your gross annual income from all sources is $25,000 or less, you qualify. This program is handled confidentially, and your name will not be released. Contact the SHOAL Centre Manager if you are interested.

Special Events

If you are looking for an evening out, join us at An Evening At The SHOAL on the 4th Thursday of each month (excluding July, August and December). The evening includes a delicious buffet dinner and entertainment.

Volunteering at SHOAL Centre

Several opportunities exist for you to share your time and talents with the Members at SHOAL Centre. If you are interested in getting involved as a volunteer, please give the Volunteer Services Coordinator a call.

Programs

Here are just a few of the great courses offered at SHOAL Centre in partnership with Panorama Recreation Centre: Bridge, Chair Fit, Stretch and Strength, Chair Yoga, Line Dancing, Beading, Drawing, Tai Chi, Fitness and Painting. In 2010 we also offered heart monitoring and cardiac eduation through the CHIP pilot program. Please call the Activities and Rental Coordinator or SHOAL Centre Manager if you have any suggestions for new programs.

Food Services

The Dining Room at SHOAL is open daily from 11:30am-1pm for lunch and 4:30-6pm for dinner. Come and enjoy the daily specials that Chef Russ and crew have prepared. If lighter fare is what you have in mind, drop by the Tuck Shop and delight in a freshly baked muffin, cookie or scone and coffee or tea.

Lunch and Dinner Economy Cards

Meal cards are a convenient and cost-effective way for you to enjoy lunch or dinner in the SHOAL Dining Room. Each meal includes a main course (choice of 3), tea or coffee and dessert.

Lunch:

$8 for one meal

$112 for 15 meals ($7.50 per meal)

$210 for 30 meals ($7 per meal)

Dinner:

$12 for one meal

$165 for 15 meals ($11 per meal)

$300 for 30 meals ($10 per meal)

Facility Rentals at SHOAL Centre

Consider SHOAL Centre for your venue the next time you are planning a family gathering, reunion, memorial tea, wedding or community group meeting. We can accommodate groups of all sizes and would be happy to discuss your catering needs. Contact the Activities and Rental Coordinator if you have any questions.

Beacon Community Services Volunteer Services

The reception desk is located at SHOAL Centre. For information and referral regarding volunteer driving, visiting, income tax preparation and much more, phone the Volunteer Services Coordinator.
