Your Feedback is Important to Us!

Here's what clients say about our Home Support service:

"Grateful thanks to all the care workers who were sent to us and were such angels in a time of awful need."

"I wish to thank you for providing much love and compassionate care for our beautiful mother. You are truly a very professional service."

"My mother...has been going through a difficult period because of a fall. Her health has been a great concern to the family. Relief and support has come thanks to your efforts to provide consistency in scheduling and your workers' excellent care and kindness. We are most thankful."

"The men and women who helped make my husband comfortable and assist in any way they could, were exceptional and we we'll greatly miss seeing them every week. He looked forward to them coming every week and treating him so special with her gentle and thoughtful ways, knowing exactly how to make him feel at ease and tending to his every need."

"Thank you to the wonderful CHW's who provided personal care during my mothers' last week of life. Your loving, gentle care allowed her to preserve her dignity, which meant everything to her."

Community Health Workers (CHWs)

A Community Health Worker, supervised and supported by a Registered or Licensed Practical Nurse, will assist you with your personal care. Each CHW is trained to provincial home support standards, must pass a criminal record check and TB screen and are registered with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.

Home Support Services

If your home support service is through VIHA’s Home and Community Care Program, a case manager will visit you to determine your needs. Some of our clients choose to buy additional service, which is arranged through Beacon Community Services’ scheduling office.

A care plan will be developed with your input and will be updated when needed. We will provide you with a weekly schedule and will notify you if there is a time change of more than sixty minutes. Your CHW will always follow the most up-to-date care plan so that you receive the best care possible. Please keep a copy of the care plan in your home.

The VIHA Home and Community Care Handbook for Clients is another helpful resource for understanding the services provided.

To ensure that your home support service is of the highest quality, all CHWs will need to use your telephone to report to our Home Support office. They will call our office both when they arrive and when they leave. This provides the most accurate record possible of the visit and its duration. For more information, read the Hestia Information Letter.

Your Schedule

Your home support is planned to meet your individual needs. Visits are a minimum of thirty minutes. The VIHA case manager may authorize additional fifteen-minute increments, as needed. We can also schedule overnight and live-in options, as well as hourly service. Every effort will be made to grant your scheduling requests. Please give us some flexibility so that we can give you the services you need.

Online Schedules

Get your most up-to-date schedule online. It's as easy as 1-2-3!

  1. First you'll need a login ID and password. Call Wanda at
250-658-7233 or email her at wchawrun@beaconcs.ca.

  2. Then go to our home page at www.beaconcs.ca and click "Log In" on the bottom of the left hand menu bar.

  3. Enter your login ID and password, and click "Submit".

Travel Time

CHWs may need to leave your home a few minutes before the end of your authorized time in order to travel to their next appointment. We appreciate your flexibility with this.

Money and Gifts

You are not expected to pay CHWs, as they are paid by Beacon Community Services. Please don’t offer CHWs gifts or money, as they will be unable to accept such kindnesses. If you want to recognize a CHW’s outstanding work, write us a letter! We are always looking for CHWs who go out of their way to make our clients happy and we will be delighted to share your good words with them. These expressions of gratitude and acknowledgement are some of the biggest rewards that CHWs value.

Smoking, Alcohol, Drugs

We pride ourselves on providing a smoke-free environment at all of our offices. Please respect WorkSafe BC requirements by not smoking one hour before or during CHW visits. Your CHWs are not permitted to buy alcohol, prescriptions or over-the-counter drugs for you. They will always say no if you ask them to join you for a drink or to consume drugs during their visit. This level of professionalism has been a determining factor in the success of our home support and we thank you in advance for your utmost cooperation.

Safety is Everyone's Responsibility

Please read our information sheet: Safety is Everyone's Responsibility. Report any accidents that involve bodily injury or damage of household goods to our home support office immediately. This WorkSafeBC pamphlet called Make Your Home Safer for Care Workers may also be of interest.

Transportation

If you require transportation, please contact Beacon Community Services, who will assist you with those travel arrangements. Our CHWs are not permitted to drive clients or their family members for errands or appointments.

Billing and Payment

A Service Agreement is prepared for your signature, which indicates the hourly billing rate for services. The rate that you will personally pay is based on the per diem calculated by VIHA or, if you have third-party coverage, on the terms of your services. Invoices are issued each month and payments in full are due no later than 1st of the following month.  We recommend that you sign up for a pre-authorized monthly payment plan using your credit card or automatic bank deductions.  You may also pay on-line at most major banks.  Or you can pay by monthly cheque. We will give you thirty days notice of any rate changes. For billing and payment inquiries, please contact our Home Support Billing Office:

Victoria, BC  V8T 4E5

Phone: 250.658.6407
Fax: 250.658.6417

Cancellation Policy

Please provide us with twenty-four hours notice if you must cancel any scheduled service. Otherwise, Beacon’s hourly rate will be charged, unless it is a medical emergency.
